Leaving Las Vegas

October 7, 2009 Travel Comments

What should have been a four to five hour flight became a three hour journey through space and time.  Thank you tail wind.

Las Vegas – Round 4

October 6, 2009 Travel Comments

LAVO
Another dull ass Las Vegas club. Don’t get me wrong the space was nice but the vibe was all wrong.

Spearmint Rhino
The best gentleman’s club in Las Vegas lacked quality but made up for it with quantity. To make matters worse I almost got into a fight but decided to play nice considering I started it :(

I blame the shots of Patron we took before leaving LAVO.

Blush
One more drink before heading back to the hotel made my last night in Vegas amazing. Sadly someone lost their phone. GGGRRRR!!!

Las Vegas – Round 3

October 5, 2009 Food, Music, Travel Comments

Hash House a go go
Best breakfast I’ve had in a while. A definite must when in Vegas.

The Beatles LOVE
The costumes and music were amazing but a lack of narrative did detract a bit from the overall awesomeness.

Revolution
A complimentary drink after the show served by a hot bartender was a nice way to kill time before dinner.

Stack at The Mirage
We dined on perfectly prepared steak goodness. YUMMY!

JET
Our package deal included complimentary entry to the JET.

JET combines 15,000 square feet of space with a modern multi-level environment. Meticulous attention to detail is evident throughout, setting a stunning scene for the ultimate nightlife experience. A one-of-a-kind light and laser grid, state-of-the-art cryogenic effects systems and the absolute best sound design technology available puts JET in a class of its own and on the leading edge.

Perhaps if I was from Ohio this club might have impressed me but considering I’m from NYC I was highly disappointed. So far Las vegas night life SUCKS!

Las Vegas – Round 2

The Bellagio Buffet
Supposedly it’s the best buffet in Las Vegas but I am more of a quality over quantity kind of guy.  I love to sample stuff as much as the next guy but I prefer a personal touch when it comes to my food.  I guess I’m selfish.

Stripburger
On the brink of starvation Al and I ran to the Fashion Mall after checking in to our hotel. Delirious with hunger we stopped at the first eatery we came across.  Thankfully it was a burger joint that was delicious. Highly recommend.

Pool Side
Spent the rest of the day relaxing by the pool catching some rays. Now this is what the doctor ordered

Wazuzu
While gambling at the Wynn we decided to get a bite to eat.  Asian fusion sounded great considering I had a craving for sushi, dumpling and Thai salad .

Packing Tips

October 2, 2009 Travel Comments

I’m packing for Vegas and thought it would be cool to post a few helpful tips on how to make packing easier.

Rolling Your Clothes
Backpackers swear by this method. Rolling works well with pants, skirts and sports shirts. Lay the item face down, fold back the sleeves and then roll from the bottom up.

Plastic Bags
It is always handy to have a few plastic bags around certain items, especially toiletries. Not only does it counter any leaking, the bags can also come in useful to keep dirty clothes in, as garbage bags or even as a makeshift umbrella. Ziplock or other airtight plastic bags are the best.

Divide Your Clothes
When you are flying somewhere and especially if you have a few stopovers, divide the clothes between different suitcases/backpacks/bags etc. If the airline loses your bag you’ll still have clean clothes available.

Airlines generally don’t compensate lost luggage for the first 24-48 hours so this will save you money if it happens to you.

Make a Packing List
Double check it before leaving so as to avoid forgetting anything.

Asia Trip: Heading Home

August 26, 2009 Travel Comments

As I sat in the airport waiting for our flight back home I couldn’t help but feel a bit sad. Never had I visited a city that felt as alive as NYC, till now. Hong Kong, in some regards eclipsed NYC.

Shopping
Amanda and I decided to spend the day sightseeing and shopping in downtown Hong Kong. One thing became abundantly clear, the Chinese love shopping.  They actually put American consumerism to shame.

Rooftop Pool
After a long day of walking we hit the rooftop pool and enjoyed the great view and amazing weather.

A Symphony of Lights
One of the best ways to experience this nightly occurrence is via ferry.  Sadly, I made us jump on the wrong ferry which left us stranded in the middle of nowhere.  Normally this wouldn’t be a problem but the humidity and dress clothes we wore made it intolerable.

Maybe I’ll get to see this show next time I’m in Hong Kong.

Chungking Mansions
After dinner we decided to walk around the Yau Tsim Mong District when suddenly I knew where we were.  Having never visited Hong Kong it was odd. Frantically my eyes darted around trying to make sense of it all. When suddenly there I was, standing across the street from Chungking Mansions.

Made famous in Wong Kar-wai’s 1994 film, Chungking Express. I’ve dreamt of one day experiencing the most culturally diverse location in Hong Kong for myself.

Man Mo Temple
One of the oldest temples in Hong Kong. Man Mo Temple is  beautifully haunting.

Victoria Peak
Took the tram up to Victoria Peak where we found an amazing view of Hong Kong and a shopping center.

Aberdeen Harbour
Took a sampan out to the fisherman village and saw how the “boat people” live. A truly remarkable experience.

Stanley Market
An open air shopping center where you haggle over chachkes.

MTR – Rapid Transit Railway
We decided to break away from the tour group and explore Hong Kong on our own. This meant taking the MTR (Mass Transit Railway) which can only be described as CLEAN.

The Central-Mid-levels Escalator
The Chinese have discovered that escalators are essential when living on a mountain.

Lan Kwai Fong
Craving a taste of Hong Kong nightlife we headed to Lan Kwai Fong. Long story short, it is good to be from NY and half Asian looking in Hong Kong.

Red Light District
We accidentally ended up partying into the wee hours of the morning surrounded by prostitutes. Thanks Amanda!

Breakfast Buffet – End Game
Not enough evidence to confirm my suspicions, Amanda wins this round.

Beginning to hatch plan for sneaking bacon on board our flight back to Hong Kong. Afraid of having Midnight Express moment (think bacon taped to my chest).

Poolside
Spent the rest of my day laying in the pool cooking my baby flesh.

Airport Massage
Spent the hour before our flight getting a $15 dollar hour long massage.

HKT>HKG
Taking off in the middle of a rain storm is never a good idea. Seems pilots in Asia have a death wish.
