Not having read the novel I can’t comment on the accuracy of this film adaption. But as a stand alone film The Road is bleak, tense and disturbing. If you aren’t white knuckling during the cannibal scene you need to seek out serious psychological help. This is a definite must see.
Bored to death by the prospect of doing the usual chocolates, flowers and fancy dinner. We decided to inject a little Halloween into the commercial holiday travesty known as Valentine’s Day. Our plan:
Named the “Best Vegetarian Restaurant in NYC” by both amNew York and L Magazine I couldn’t resist. Five tasty dishes later I was convinced that Dirt Candy was only for vegetarians or foodies looking for something different.
Dating Tip: In my opinion Dirt Candy is a great first date spot. Small, intimate and sure to spark a great conversation. Now if for some reason your date hates the spot you can both have a laugh over burgers at a late night diner.
Terry Gilliam, director of Time Bandits, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen and Brazil, is back with his distinct sense of visual style and dark sense of humor in The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus. Be warned that The Imaginarium is only for the true Gilliam fan.
It’s been a long time coming but I finally changed the look and feel of my blog. In the past I’ve unsuccessfully tried and failed. Which left me no choice but to roll back to my original Bluebird theme. Thankfully I’ve found a new theme that I was able to alter and make my own. So far it’s received a ton of positive feedback.
Let me know what you think.
PS I know the pagination is all fucked up and I promise I’ll fix it when I have a chance.
Paper Heart is a quest across America to make a “documentary” about the one subject Charlyne Yi doesn’t understand: Love. Every fiber in my mind, body and soul wanted to hate this mockumentary. Yet the more I watched the more I laughed and gave into the illusion that these two weirdos had actually found love together.
Perhaps I can identify with their quirkiness or maybe I feel we’re all a little strange when it comes to matters of the heart. Regardless the movie made me laugh and lingered in my mind for days. Check it out.
It would be easy for me to completely write this movie off but that would be unfair. Sure the writing / directing are cheesy and reminiscent of a WB (or is that CW?) sitcom.
But at it’s core The Answer Man is about the loss of one’s father and the helplessness we feel. I can’t say this is a good film but at the very least it is attempting more than most films. In my book that warrants a viewing.
You are probably expecting a one line review but oddly enough I’m torn. On one hand I found this film silly and poorly written. Which caught me by surprise when you consider Academy Award winning writer Diablo Cody, of Juno fame, penned the screenplay. But on the other, I couldn’t help but enjoy the corny nature of the film. If you enjoyed The Craft pick up a copy and file it under guilty pleasure.
