MacWorld 2008
Today was a bit of an odd day. I was hoping Apple would release a new version of the iPhone but instead they released a new laptop called the MacBook Air. It looks cool and is truly a marvel of computer hardware engineering but I wasn’t blown away. To be quite frank I felt it was a flawed product. Doing away with the disc drive is a big mistake.
What if I want to install applications, rip music from a CD or watch a DVD? The application issue is the main flaw and reason why I was disappointed. The necessity of another computer is retarded. If you have another Mac you can search the network for a shared disc drive. If you have a PC you just need to install this small piece of software and then search for the shared drive. Now what if i am not inclined or better yet don’t own another computer? Oh. that’s right I can purchase the optional disc drive. Wait doesn’t that drive up the price of entry? Not to mention making lugging around the machine more cumbersome.
As for ripping a CD or watching a DVD, I can see how their choice was driven by their other business interests. iTunes and the new movie rental model alleviate the issue and stand to benefit from such a move. So again money and greed tramples user friendliness. Seems like something is in the air, greed.
I guess the worst part is how for a few minutes Steve’s keynote turned into a “defend our design choice” speech. Now, I know I sound like a “Mac hater” but don’t get me wrong. I love Apple and think the Air is a cool piece of technology, just a little to ahead of its time.
An Old Friend
After lunch and dealing with the thought that I would have to wait longer for an iPhone I started up a conversation with an old friend. We are actually good friends but as of late, whenever we speak it’s just fluff. But today was different. I sensed a warmth in her that I haven’t felt in a long time. I want to write about it but it’s getting late and i still need to fold my laundry.

Closer
Saw it again for the third time and every-time I see it I cringe. I believe the older I get the more I come away with. One scene in particular stood out this time that I missed before. Jude Law meets Julia Roberts for the first time in the studio and after some serious flirting they kiss. It isn’t the kiss that touched me but the lingering before the kiss and the beauty of that singular moment.
I assume most of us, myself included take for granted those first few second before a first kiss. Sure we revel in the actual kiss and events leading up the the nervous moment but not that actual act of coming close. We tend to rush it and then after that tension is broken do we fully enjoy the full extent of our senses. Its that tension from you first motion toward one another that I’m talking about. Like two objects set in motion that can’t and won’t stop. Unsure of the out come.
That tension is so intoxicating yet oddly enough I have taken it for granted. It has taken me 29 years to finally notice and cherish that moment that only happens once per couple. Talk about being a late bloomer
Back to the grind. I need to start working out again. I’m feeling healthy enough.
I got quite a surprise today, my boss gave me an iPod nano 8 gig in red. Actually everyone got one. It’s a nice gift but I can’t help but feel it was motivated more by the mass exodus that has been occurring than pure generosity. Up it goes on eBay.

I got home and popped in Goal. IMDB says:
Like millions of kids around the world, Santiago harbors the dream of being a professional footballer. However, living in the Barrios section of Los Angeles, he thinks it is only that–a dream. Until one day an extraordinary turn of events has him trying out for Premiership club Newcastle United.
It was a cute movie but I was surprised by the ending. It was pretty heartless and that is surprising considering its’ a Disney movie.
After that warm happy feeling you get from a Disney movie faded away (about 5 seconds) I finished Half-Life 2 and I was bummed. Maybe I’m slow but I totally didn’t get the story line and the ending was a bit of a let down. It just leaves you hanging so you can purchase Half-Life 2 Episode 1.
Final note, I’m addicted to Uno on the 360.
Went to Best Buy with George and purchase a Bluetooth remote for my PS3.

Met up with Chika and saw Atonement, it was good but needed editing. The cinematography was utterly amazing. Chika is super sweet she got me a ton of shit from Japan among them was the coveted cat paw.
Went to Hooters with Pab, Al and Paul so they could sing him Happy Birthday. We then headed to a club called Spotlight for Dennis’ birthday. The place was nice but the crowd was all tourists and ghetto people. Not really my scene. T showed up and we left after 2 hours of just sitting around and doing nothing. It was very unorganized. I felt bad for Dennis.
We went to Vig Bar and I saw this hot Asian girl with pink heels. I’m not sure why but I really love long legs and high heels. I ran up to her when she was trying to catch a cab and felt good after our conversation. It was a great exchange cause I was sharp and witty. I had forgotten how quick I can be when I’m not drinking. I doubt she will call but I tried my best. The ball is in her court.
I also picked up this other girl that is a regular at Vig. She is asian, of course, and we had some tension. Not the sexual sort but an odd tension that is hard to describe. She was smoking with two other friends outside when she leaned over and calls me Patrick. I knew from that point on she was attracted and was just trying to get my attention.
I ran into them again later in the night and had a great conversation. Lets see how this plays out.
I went out with Pab for his birthday and had a few drinks. I was actually proud of myself since I didn’t drink that much. We went to a few places but the place we wanted to get in most, Gallery Bar wouldn’t let us in. I felt like such a serf.
Forum has a lot of potential as far as picking up young college girls. Speaking of college girls, I met up with Pegi and finally met Kat (the Korean Hooter girl). She wasn’t as pretty as I remembered. Regardless she was surrounded by these young male models. They all looked like Owen Wilson, minus the wrist scars. They all had long blond hair and light eyes. I guess they were good looking but they all just looked like cookie cutter white dudes. I guess girls are into that.
Regardless when I walked in they all just scampered. It was funny how they knew who was the alpha male. I know it sounds conceited but it happened and Pab was my witness.
Jury Duty. I got out of it since it was a Grand Jury case with a minimum of 30 days service. I told them I couldn’t do it since my job wouldn’t permit it.
Went home and saw Jump Street Season 5 Disc 2 on the couch with the folks. Man I miss Johnny Depp.

I treated George to McD’s fries and a Burger King Whopper. It was good. Saw 3:10 to Yuma and it was your standard western until the end where the writer and director (not sure which one) took a huge misstep that destroyed the movie. It left me frustrated.

I then made the mistake of watch Oceans 13, which was nothing more than a vanity project. I think they shot it all digitally and it shows. The whole movie is dirty, murky and grainy. I also noticed they shot everything from a long shot and it really hurts the movie. I felt so distant from the plot and the characters for the first half of the movie. It wasn’t till the middle that I was finally engaged but by then I was totally uninterested.
Note: Ellen Barkin is HOT!
Played some more Half-Life 2 and got booted off by George. He really wanted to see this movie called Dragon Wars. I feel asleep 15 minutes in.

Saw Rush Hour 3 and they should have stopped at 2. This franchise is dead.
Still sick but I feel alot better. I think I will be able to go to work tomorrow.
Saw the rest of the Company and it just blew me away. The whole script and acting are so well done. Michael Keaton’s performance as “Mother” is fucking phenomenal, Alfred Molina is superb and Chris O’Donnell proves he can act.
I will write about it later once I get my hands on the Blu-ray copy. Yup, Blu-ray! It seems Warner Brother’s has finally decided to go Blu-ray all the way. I guess HD is fucked. At least this warrants my purchase of the PS3.

Saw Namesake (story of Indian immigrant family), it was stupid long but really good. I actually thought the performance by the father was really strong and understated.
Couldn’t sleep so I signed up for match.com. Saw a few gorgeous women, crossing my fingers.

Woke up feeling a lot better. Popped Ratatouille into the 360 and found it enjoyable. It wasn’t great but it was entertaining. Although, I enjoyed this little 5 minute short on the history of the rat a lot more than the movie.

Next up, The Company. I saw part 1& 2 and was blown away. Can’t wait to see part 3.

Saw Naked Weapon cause of Maggie Q. She is not as hot as I recall but she is still in the top 10. The movie was awful.
Went back to Blockbuster and got the Company part 3

Played Half-Life 2. I enjoy the action but the story really isn’t getting me. I respect what it is trying but it’s boring. I’ve seen this story a million times and done way better.
