I needed something a little dreamy with a California vibe. Surfin by Memory Cassette off the Call & Response EP fit the bill perfectly.

I know this album came out last year but I stumbled on it today while perusing the iTunes Store and fell in love. Stand out tracks are:
Until We Bleed
Lykke Li does the vocals so you know it’s good.
Misery
The beat sounds like a pop version of Silent Lucidity by Queensrÿche.
Iris
Has a very Jan Hammer / Miami Vice soundtrack sound.

The story of three brothers that help fellow Jews hide from the Nazi’s in the deep forests of German occupied Poland and Belorussia during World War II. Surprisingly, director Edward Zwik (Glory and Blood Diamond) plays it safe and leaves us with a film lacking any emotional punch.

The new Owl City album is fun but I can’t stop feeling guilty listening to them. They sound like a teen version of Postal Service. I will file this obsession with Fireflies under guilty pleasure and deny it vehemently if ever confronted publicly.
An exclusive cocktail reception with booze provided by Patron made for a great Wednesday night. Sadly, Rob did not perform “Scotty Doesn’t Know” for Michelle. I’m certain he would have gotten a smile out of her had he followed my advice.

While not actually x-ray vision it’s still pretty cool.
With a 97% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and the critics hailing it as “a near perfect movie” I couldn’t help but get excited. Sadly, the film is a huge disappointment and to even call it good is a stretch. Ranging from stereotypical action movie to standard indie character study (long ambiguous takes) The Hurt Locker fails to find a balance. Quickly devolving into a mediocre war film that explores no new ground.
If you are searching for a war film with a character study slant, I recommend Tigerland.
Considering Mann’s previous work on the film Heat, it’s no surprise he was chosen to direct a film based on famous bank robber John Dillinger. While not a bad movie, Public Enemies falls short of what one typically expects from a Michael Mann film. While the film has a few great bank heist scenes the movie never fully explores its main characters and as a result feels rushed and unpolished.
