Asia Trip: Come Fly With Me

August 17, 2009 Travel Comments

JFK
Up for 24 hours and not feeling the least bit tired. Amazing what excitement and adrenaline can do.

HKG
Sixteen hour flight on Cathay Airlines went smoother than expected and relatively painless. The flight attendants were all very attractive, if this any indication of what lies ahead I am truly excited.

PEK
Dragon Air, our connecting flight to Beijing served some delicious cookies that reminded me of the treats Sandy would get in Chinatown.

Beijing, China – Capital Hotel
I get the impression our hotel is frequented by foreign dignitaries. The late night hamburger we had tasted like meatloaf.  I suspect they use the same seasoning used in their pork dumplings.  Further testing / sampling is required. Click here for more details.

Packing for Asia

August 16, 2009 Travel Comments

My trip to Asia is only two days away and I am excited / nervous about the sixteen hour flight to Hong Kong. Every time I close my eyes I see the intro to Euro Trip playing on the back of my eye lids.  I know it doesn’t make sense but when do I ever make sense?

Great style and pacing aren’t enough to compensate for this films disappointing dénouement.

Brooklyn Brewery

Met up with some new friends and decided to check out the Brooklyn Brewery. The place made me think of Shotz Brewery from Laverne and Shirley.

Had a great time bowling with Kelly and the gang at Brooklyn Bowl. The place had a great vibe. Click her for more info.

Superdive

August 12, 2009 Food Comments

Rowdy frat bars don’t usually pique our interest. But Superdive so perfectly replicates the Alpha Beta experience that, fine, we’ll do a reluctant keg stand. But just one. Chug a few beers at this raucous Alphabet City saloon and it’s easy to forget you’re in a bar at all. It’s like a fictional frat house, with a lack of decor so striking—a couple of couches, a long ugly bar, a few tables hosting beer pong—it could’ve been achieved only by drunk dudes who slept through the campus-center poster sale. The crowd appears to have stumbled out of an Abercrombie catalog and on most nights packs the place full. In fact, on weekends you’ll want a reservation—an absurd requirement for a place that postures as the ultimate dive bar.

The Bucket List

Not Rob Reiner’s best work but still enjoyable.  Even if it is peppered with corny / sappy moments that may make most people roll their eyes.

Note: Jack Nicholson is not aging well.

New in Town

Big city girl moves to a small town plot line with not so much as an attempt at diverting from the tried and true mediocore Hollywood template.

Ghosts of Girlfriends Past

Why does Matthew McConaughey continue to do these terrible movies? He has acting chops, WTF.

Note: I actually knew someone that was moved to tears by the movies emotional plot line. Talk about bad taste.
