Rowdy frat bars don’t usually pique our interest. But Superdive so perfectly replicates the Alpha Beta experience that, fine, we’ll do a reluctant keg stand. But just one. Chug a few beers at this raucous Alphabet City saloon and it’s easy to forget you’re in a bar at all. It’s like a fictional frat house, with a lack of decor so striking—a couple of couches, a long ugly bar, a few tables hosting beer pong—it could’ve been achieved only by drunk dudes who slept through the campus-center poster sale. The crowd appears to have stumbled out of an Abercrombie catalog and on most nights packs the place full. In fact, on weekends you’ll want a reservation—an absurd requirement for a place that postures as the ultimate dive bar.
Despite blog rumors, customers are not allowed to mix their own. -- Time Out New York
I heard about the Patron Social Club through Going.com and decided to check it out. The place was über chill and the people a good mix of hipsters and young professionals. I'd blog more but I need to get a few more drinks and make some friends.
One of the biggest benefits of dieting is my new found outlook on food. No longer do I decide on a meal by how much money I have in my pocket or how fast I can get it. Gone are the days of walking into a McDonald's and ordering a value meal without first questioning how that food was produced and what effect it will have on my body.
While looking up Food, Inc., a documentary on the food industry I came across this video showing one fast food chain being socially responsible while maintaining a high degree of yumminess. Enjoy.
I was blown away when I found out my friend is the culinary / creative force behind the Fancy Fast Food blog. A blog devoted to the extreme makeover of actual fast food items purchased at popular fast food restaurants.
Spent the afternoon drinking at the new beer garden in Astoria and was extremely impressed by the space. But couldn't help but feel bad for the old German Beer Garden in Ditmars. Studio Square opening its doors must be the beer garden equivalent of having a Walmart come to your small town and effectively destroying small business's in the region.
Brunch at Cafe Bar, a visit to the Museum of the Moving Image and a few pitchers at the Astoria Beer Garden were the order of the day. Sadly I'm a functional illiterate and misread the hours of operation for the museum. That just meant more time at the Beer Garden.
Not content with being slightly buzzed to I continued drinking and dance off the empty calories at the Sullivan Room.
Went to Hooters with Pab, Al and Paul so they could sing him Happy Birthday. We then headed to a club called Spotlight for Dennis’ birthday. The place was nice but the crowd was all tourists and ghetto people. Not really my scene. T showed up and we left after 2 hours of just sitting around and doing nothing. It was very unorganized. I felt bad for Dennis.
We went to Vig Bar and I saw this hot Asian girl with pink heels. I'm not sure why but I really love long legs and high heels. I ran up to her when she was trying to catch a cab and felt good after our conversation. It was a great exchange cause I was sharp and witty. I had forgotten how quick I can be when I'm not drinking. I doubt she will call but I tried my best. The ball is in her court.
I also picked up this other girl that is a regular at Vig. She is asian, of course, and we had some tension. Not the sexual sort but an odd tension that is hard to describe. She was smoking with two other friends outside when she leaned over and calls me Patrick. I knew from that point on she was attracted and was just trying to get my attention.
I ran into them again later in the night and had a great conversation. Lets see how this plays out.
I went out with Pab for his birthday and had a few drinks. I was actually proud of myself since I didn’t drink that much. We went to a few places but the place we wanted to get in most, Gallery Bar wouldn't let us in. I felt like such a serf.
Forum has a lot of potential as far as picking up young college girls. Speaking of college girls, I met up with Pegi and finally met Kat (the Korean Hooter girl). She wasn’t as pretty as I remembered. Regardless she was surrounded by these young male models. They all looked like Owen Wilson, minus the wrist scars. They all had long blond hair and light eyes. I guess they were good looking but they all just looked like cookie cutter white dudes. I guess girls are into that.
Regardless when I walked in they all just scampered. It was funny how they knew who was the alpha male. I know it sounds conceited but it happened and Pab was my witness.
