Bored to death by the prospect of doing the usual chocolates, flowers and fancy dinner. We decided to inject a little Halloween into the commercial holiday travesty known as Valentine’s Day. Our plan:
Named the “Best Vegetarian Restaurant in NYC” by both amNew York and L Magazine I couldn’t resist. Five tasty dishes later I was convinced that Dirt Candy was only for vegetarians or foodies looking for something different.
Dating Tip: In my opinion Dirt Candy is a great first date spot. Small, intimate and sure to spark a great conversation. Now if for some reason your date hates the spot you can both have a laugh over burgers at a late night diner.
After two+ years of marathon dating I’ve met someone that makes the prospect of monogamy attractive. With a strange vibe, quick wit and beautiful smile Roxy has made an honest man out of me.
Since Roxy came back into my life I had been dreading the “we’re better friends” conversation I would have to have with ________.
Days had passed and I had yet to work up the nerve when, in a strange turn of cosmic good fortune, she instant messaged me. “I think we are better friends. What do you think?” A few instant messages later and it was done. Not a tear spilled or harsh word uttered.
If Apple designed a product to help in the break up process it would work like this.
A one night stay at The Surrey Hotel, dinner at Palm Too (I like steak and took inspiration from “Catch Me if You Can”) and a spa treatment for two with that special someone was the best way to relax after a very long week of work.
Exhausted from a workout all I wanted to do was relax and enjoy the subway ride home but fate had other plans. As I began to get comfortable I noticed a woman staring at me. Her eyes darted up and down as if she were scanning me. After five minutes it dawned on me, this was a girl I had ignored on Match.
The next twenty minutes were spent trying to avoid eye contact. I failed. Our eyes met and a stinging sense of awkwardness ran through my body.
With its open kitchen and communal seating, salt offers a warm ambience and a seasonal menu that empowers diners to customize dinner: Pick your protein (whole grilled Dorade Royale, say, or roasted pork loin) and any two sides, like sautéed eggplant or braised fennel. Or play it safe with a pre-accessorized “chef’s entrée,” like steamed halibut with edamame and kumquats in miso broth. — Adam Platt
After a year of hardcore working out I decided it was time to spurge with a a fancy meal at one of my favorite restaurants. Did I mention it’s one of the top ten restaurants in NYC according to Zagat Survey?
The New York Post printed the recap from my totally mismatched blind date. WTF were they thinking putting me on a date with her? Click here for the article.
