As a child I recall watching El Norte with my parents and being extremely moved by the story of two Guatemalan immigrants displaced by civil war.
For years I searched for a copy of the film on DVD with no luck. Thankfully Criterion has finally released a newly, restored high-definition digital transfer supervised and approved by director Gregory Nava. Also included, In the Service of the Shadows: The Making of El Norte.
A truly amazing and moving film that critic Roger Ebert called a Grapes of Wrath for our time.
