Love Actually

December 31, 2008 General Comments

I’m a firm believer that certain movies find you at certain points in your life to help you gain perspective. Watching Love Actually was a perfect example of this theory.

It has been a long time since i’ve seen a movie that left me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside.  Sure the movie isn’t perfect but when a movie is this good is gains a certain amount of credit with the audience allowing it to get away with a few things here and there.  I highly recommend this movie.

Twisting in the Wind

December 30, 2008 General Comments

Over the holiday break I was suppose to meet up with Suzanne for our second date but a day before, I received a text message that read:

Sorry its taken so long for me to get back to you, I’ve been busy with work. I think we should be friends since I didn’t feel any chemistry.

You could imagine my surprise considering the amazing date we had over the weekend. Shocked I asked for an explanation but never heard back.  I spent the rest of my holiday break hurt, confused and in desperate need of closure. It sucks when you feel a connection with someone or have feelings that aren’t reciprocated but receiving such a vague text made matters worse.

My breath smells? Fine.
My lifestyle is unattractive? Great!
You like assholes and I’m too nice? Thanks and good day.

These are all acceptable reasons that would have given me CLOSURE!  Instead she sent some vague text. Messages like that are fucking bullshit. Granted some would say “no chemistry” is a clear message but I know what I saw / felt on our date and I’m certain this woman was “feeling me,” period.

Having a few days to hang with friends and family helped me gain perspective and realize that I’m tired of being left twisting in the wind. It is fucked up and rude.

PS For those psyche majors that want to read into my anger, don’t bother.

  1. I’m worked up cause I hate feeling helpless. I like to control my destiny and have closure.
  2. After two years of drowning in a sea of women that are beautiful but fucked in the head I finally met someone with that magic combination of personality and beauty.  Sadly she wanted nothing to do with me.

Helvetica

Essential viewing for all graphic designers and enjoyable viewing for the general audience that want an education on design. And even if you don’t care about design it is still worth watching just to see all the ecentric personalities.

What better way to celebrate Christmas than watching a film that pokes fun at JC himself.  Sadly the film sucked and had only two funny jokes which i had already seen on YouTube.  My friend once said that women comedians aren’t funny. I’m not sure I agree but Sarah Silverman made a good case proving his argument.

Xbox 360 – Netflix Streaming

December 27, 2008 General Comments

Considering I have four days off and nothing to do I decided to set up the Netflix streaming feature on my 360.

Impressions

  • Quality was comparable to a DVD which I found disappointing.
  • The movie selection was terrible
  • You have to setup everything up on your computer, BOOO!!!.

Find Me Guilty
As I mentioned above the movie selection was terrible.  If this isn’t proof I don’t know what is.  Sure its a Sidney Lumet movie but its also his weakest.

The Wrestler

A great movie that shows Darren Aronofsky is a master of his craft and proves Mickey Rourke is an amazing actor deserving of all the Oscar Best Actor buzz.

Merry Christmas

I would write something but I need to get back to my Xbox 360.

In Bruges

When compared to most movies I love, In Bruges is enjoyable but average. But when I consider the sea of crappy movies I’ve seen lately it was definitely a breath of fresh air.

War Inc.

I losely recall watching Grosse Pointe Blank and thinking it was a funny concept and decent execution. Sadly War Inc. loses a lot of what made Groos Pointe Blank so funny.

The Happening

M. Night needs to stop making movies and concentrate on writing books or short stories. I apprciate his attempt at making tried and true film generes more cerebral and personal but he hasn’t had a success since Sixth Sense.

His last few films have failed but those at least have a beginning middle and end. With the Happening I couldn’t help but feel it was rushed to meet some summer movie studio schedule. I personally believe his ideas far excede those of others in Hollywood but they don’t translate very well to the silver screen.
