I’m a huge video game nerd and today was the launch of the new Xbox 360 GUI (Graphical User Interface). I had been keeping up with its development, handled by Schematic, the people that did the famous interface you see in Minority Report.
Impressions
- Gorgeous and sleek design.
- Avatars rule!
- Better Marketplace navigation.
I admit the interface takes getting use to and it’s easy to get lost as you dive deeper but I think these issues can be easily addressed.
The most important take away is realizing the impact this will have on how we interact with our devices. This is the first 3D interface in our living rooms that will be used by the general public. Combine that with all the people using the Apple iPhone “touch” approach and the vision of the future depicted in Minority Report will become a reality.
