Phantom Dust

November 6, 2008 General Comments

I was at 1Up.com today looking at my first attempt at blogging and found an entry I felt belonged here. I guess it was the only entry that felt “pure.” Enjoy!

I’ve been thinking about what to write in regard to Phantom Dust but I am a ball of emotions right now. I want to rant and rave about how amazing the game is but worry I will come off as a fan boy (I hate that). Sure I can go from rooftop to rooftop screaming at the top of my lungs, “Phantom Dust Is Amazing.” Instead I will blog it cause my experience with the game was and still is quite personal.

So here is a list (in no specific order) detailing what I love about Phantom Dust

  • Graphics are breath taking
  • Art direction is inspired
  • Story is deep and philosophical
  • Game mechanics perfect and balance
  • Online is addictive, regardless if you win or lose battles

Now if the reasons above don’t grab your attention, I leave you with this final thought (I am sure I will get crap for this). Phantom Dust is the first game I have ever played (I’ve been playing games for 10+ years) that qualifies as a piece of ART in my book. Yup, you read right, ART! I know people will say Katamari Damacy, Zelda or even Jet Set Radio Future but I only consider those games aesthetically pleasing but devoid of true meaning. Are they entertaining yes but do they make you sit back and ponder what constitutes a soul? Is life nothing more than a mere collection of memories? Phantom Dust differs from those and a slew of other games on the market because it raised many questions and provided few answers. Those answers I must find on my own.

PS Run out and get Phantom Dust cause if you don’t, you are only doing yourself a disservice.
