What could have been a fully realized film turns out to be nothing more than a character study. It should be noted that Daniel Day Lewis turns in another amazing performance and the cinematography amazing.
Note: I guess if you copy the style and techniques of great directors that have come before you and display an encyclopedic knowledge of films it’s enough to convince people you’re an amazing director. At least that seems to be the case with Paul Thomas Anderson, director of Magnolia and Boogie Nights. Two shitty movies that pull the artsy card in order to bypass the fact they suck.
