She looked like she had seen a ghost and I realized something was wrong. The look of sadness and worry on her face had little to do with me and more to do with the stock market.
The market had been taking a beating all day and my date was a victim. Her optimism or pure greed (not really sure) caused her to hold onto some stocks she should have gotten rid of earlier in the day. Sure she would have taken a loss but at least been out of danger. With the market dropping fast and no chance of fixing the situation her mood got progressively worse.
I mentioned she could have canceled our date but she insisted she wanted to meet me. I think she just needed a distraction, anything to keep her mind off the impending doom. We ordered a pitcher of Sangria and after an hour we were making out. As I walked her to the corner to catch a cab I knew I would never see her again. I am certain she just wanted to go home and forget the whole entire day.
She never told me how much she stood to lose but I assume, based on our conversation, it was close to 30 – 40 G’s of her own money.
