The Lost Thirteen

July 14, 2008 General Comments

30 Days of Night
Great premise terrible ending.  Only for the the comic book / horror movie fan.

Beowulf
I actually found this film very enjoyable. Neil Gaiman and Roger Avary did a good job with the screenplay.

Blades of Glory
Not to be confused with Blades of Steel which was a fucking amazing hokcey games on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES).  This movie had three or four funny moments which I had already seen in the trailer.  GRRRRR!!!

Blood & Chocolate
I was expecting the worst from this movie and was surprised that the first 30 to 40 minutes were good.  But then the movie takes a nose dive.  Avoid this movie like you would avoid using a dirty needle at a free health clinic in the South Bronx.

The Brave One
Really Jodie Foster?  I swear I’ve seen this movie years ago only it starred Charles Bronson and was called Death Wish.  Don’t believe me take a look at the video below.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry
The movie had a few laughs.  Highlights include:

  • Ving Rhames playing against type.
  • Jessica Biel looking ridiculously HOT!
  • A scene starring a bevy of HOT Asian women.

Dragonlance: Dragons of Autumn Twilight
Only for the true Dungeons and Dragons nerd. The animation quality is terrible, I’ve seen Saturday morning cartoons that looked better.

Evan Almighty
It was a cute family movie.  Perfect for all those living in the Bible belt.

Good Luck Chuck
Terrible!  Jessica Alba needs to stop picking movies based on the size of the paycheck.

Into the Wild
By far the best movie in the bunch and easily the best film I’ve seen all year.  Sean Penn does a superb job on his directorial debut.  I highly recommend this film.

National Lampoon’s – Van WIlder: The Rise of Taj
I’m guilty of enjoying these terrible movies.

Saw IV
I respect and enjoy what the Saw series has done for the genre.  Especially when you look at the current state of horror films that get green lit.  Most are just awful remakes of already bad Japanese horror films.  I will admit that the Saw series takes itself a bit too serious but it is clever and always has a level of polish true horror film / gore enthusiasts enjoy.

The Heartbreak Kid
Totally annoying, I didn’t laugh once.

The Lives of Others
An amazing foreign film.  Drop what you’re doing and watch it.

And Now Back to Our Regularly Scheduled Programming
I had dinner with my good friend Sherry at Atomic Wings.  Not really sure I can call it dinner.
