Tonight we went to Mercury Bar to watch an episode of American Gladiators. Why? Well, our friend Jessica was one of the 20 women — selected from a pool of 9,000 to compete.
While watching the show I kept thinking, “wow, Jessica just made some serious bank.” Why else would she invite us to watch? I know if I lost I would want to keep it under wraps. Clearly Jessica and I are very different since she lost and decided to share it with everyone. To her credit she handled it with a level of humility rarely seen. I was really proud of her. It got me thinking that perhaps I need to be a more humble and accepting of my own failures.
If you want to read more check out the American Gladiator site or this article at the NYTimes.

I could write a long rant about the the problems with the story and pacing. Instead I will just cut and paste something I read in the Washington Times that truly captures how I felt watching this film.
WALL*E begins with all the comedic splendor of a Charlie Chaplin film, but quickly devolves into a rickety bore.

Rotten Tomatoes has this movie rated at 97% on the TOMATOMETER. Critics really need to remember that feature films are not 6 or 7 gags strung together. That sort of film making is better suited for short films. . . wait isn’t that what Pixar is known for? No wonder the movie bored me after 15 minutes.

Decided to watch Curse of the Golden Flower. I really enjoyed the film visually but the story was a bit disappointing. I would only recommend the film to those with a penchant for Chinese opera. Gong Li is so HOT!
In the evening I attended yet another birthday party. It was at this bar called 3 Steps and it was dark and hot as hell. On the up side it was filled with talent. I promised myself I would return next week.
Random Note: I always by shots when it’s someones birthday. I’m like the Santa Claus of booze.
So after months of angry phone calls and e-mails I finaly got my $500 insurance check from Storage Deluxe. To celebrate I went out with Al and got shut down by this cute asian girl. Fuck it! At least I got paid.
The smallest city has to be New York City. While sitting in the park having lunch with Chika I ran into Kazumi. I haven’t seen her in months.
Kazumi
It’s easy to throw the word crazy around but in the case of Kazumi it’s pretty accurate. She isn’t clinically crazy but she has her moments. That being said I think she’s a good person at her core, just a little screwed up in the head.
So what do my friends think of her?
Al – Crazy! She’s cute with some nice qualities but she buries them.
T – In one word? Misunderstood perhaps that is why she acts the way she does.
Laura – Like a koala bear.
Note: One of my fondest memories of last summer was this night we went to a bar and played chess. It was so sexy.
What if a demon were to creep after you one night, in your loneliest loneliness, and say, ‘This life which you live must be lived by you once again and innumerable times more; and every pain and joy and thought and sigh must come again to you, all in the same sequence. The eternal hourglass will again and again be turned and you with it, dust of the dust!’ Would you throw yourself down and gnash your teeth and curse that demon? Or would you answer, ‘Never have I heard anything more divine’?

I hate it when people accuse me of shit. Nothing angers me more than ignorant motherfuckers. The saddest part is I really care about people and try my hardest to never hurt anyone.
Rant brought to you by Tide. Now 2x concentrated. One small cap gets your whole wash Tide clean.
First Date
We met at Jacques Torres for hot chocolate and croissants. We sat and talked for an hour before deciding to take a walk in SOHO. The date would have gone on for longer but I had to meet my second date at the theater.
Second Date
When I picked her up two nights ago at a party she mentioned not having seen Iron Man. I hadn’t seen it either and figured what better way to get to know someone than taking them to a geeky comic book movie. She was nice but a little on the quite / conservative side. Off the list!

Third Date
I was planning on going home when I received a call from Maki. She wanted to hang out and Al mentioned he would be at the beer garden. We all met up and had a great time.
Today a bunch of us packed into a car and drove all the way out to Staten Island. We were going to visit Nick, one of my best friends from college, who I haven’t seen in over a year. The last time I saw him was right after his wife gave birth. Flash forward one year and he now owns a house. Amazing how quickly life changes.
While at his home I noticed that his life was filled with so much happiness and warmth. By most peoples standards he has everything, a family that loves him and a place to call his own. But for me his life was the last five pages of a great novel or the first few pages of a book in which I already know the ending.
I guess this where Sandy and I were most different. What I yearn for is the chance to live out the three hundred pages of that great novel. Sandy just wanted to read a classic.
One of my co-workers decided to throw himself a birthday party on the roof of his apartment. Highlights included:
- Picking up this cute Korean girl.
- Watching Rob get fucked up.
- The view
The downside was getting rained on which would normally be cool but I decided to wear white linen pants.
