Missing Out

March 31, 2008 General Comments

I was so tired from work and the weekend that I decided to skip the NYC TV party celebrating the many Emmy wins/nominations they received.

Instead I went to the Home Depot.

Very Norman Rockwell

March 30, 2008 General Comments

Work sucks! I’m usually pretty good about going to work on the weekend considering it doesn’t happen often but I didn’t get a lot of sleep. Not to mention it was a very grueling week.

Thankfully Nice met up with me in the evening for dinner and a movie. We saw “Under the Same Moon” which was cute but did feel a little cliched.

While having burgers at Stand the oddest thing popped into my head. Nice was sitting there wearing a tight red sweater with a little scarf wrapped around her neck. As she ate her burger and sipped her milkshake I couldn’t help but notice how Norman Rockwell the whole scene was.

It was like watching a reinvention or a modernized version of classic American youth so beautifully depicted in Rockwell’s work. I’m sure she must have thought I was strange for saying so but then it dawned on her how right I was. Maybe she was just humoring me. Regardless it was awesome and I had a great night.

Running Around

Today was the day I’d been dreading for a while. I had to go and pick up my damaged dresser from storage and I was worried that George and I wouldn’t be able to get it done. Actually, that’s not true, I was just upset with having to rent a van, deal with the storage people and having to lift this stupidly heavy piece of furniture. Luckily George and I were joking around so much, since he had been in the Dominican Republic for a week, that I didn’t even notice any of it.

Once we got the dresser home and returned the van George helped me remove the television from the wall and repair the gaping hole left behind by the Geek Squad a few weeks ago. As a reward for all his hard work I took him to get his nails done. I think he totally had a blast. How could you not enjoy a gorgeous woman pampering you?

On our way back home I got a call from T, who I haven’t seen for a while. I invited her to dinner with Al and Jina. Yup Jina! She called earlier that day and asked what I was up too. I figured this would be a great opportunity to have her meet Al and T and get their impressions. I was a bit worried it would turn into a total cluster fuck but it turned out to be a great dinner at Tre.

After that we hit Jessica’s birthday party which turned out to be interesting. People need to learn that drinking doesn’t grant you the magical ability to say whatever pops into your head. On the bright side Angela showed up and met my amigos.

Afterward she took me to a secret after hour Chinatown restaurant that is located down a staircase in the middle of nowhere. It seems all the asian club kids hit this spot at four in the morning.

The highlight of the night was making out with her on the relatively empty streets of Chinatown. The whole time keeping one eye on the triads across the street shooting me the shit look. How exhilarating ;)

Workaholicism

Woke up feeling a little better but was still feeling sick. I wanted to bang out but I had a ton of work waiting for me at the office.

Now I’ll be the first admit I have my slacker tendencies but every once in a while I get a in this zone where I can’t stop. I got put on a new project and felt some pressure to perform. Especially since I just got a promotion and I figured I needed to step up my game. And step it up I did. I worked till ten in the evening and created a stellar piece of work.

Afterwards I met up with Al for dinner at the Neptune Diner. He wasn’t looking to good and must have gotten the bug. Sadly he looked a lot worse than I did.

Sick Again?

I woke up feeling like crap. It might have been the run but for some reason I think it had more to do with the bug going around the office. Actually it seems to be going around NYC.

I didn’t think I would make it thru the day and when I did get home I just took some Airborne, bundled up and went to bed.

Juno

Tonight was my second official friendly movie night with Jina. This time instead of a cakelet she showed up with a fruit smoothie. It was cute and very considerate.

I had heard so much about Juno I was a little afraid it would suck. Luckily I was wrong and it turned out to be really good. Sure the parents in the movie were too cool and the kids too mature but the writing was so funny you over looked all its flaws. Although I will admit the whole ending, them playing folk music, was pure bullshit.

After the movie I picked up a copy of Ninja Gaiden for the DS and went for a run at eleven at night.

Two Birds with One Stone

I had my first Thai iced tea at lunch with Angela. She was kind enough to come all the way into the city for our “lunch date” at Rungsit.

I had promised Wilma, last week, I would go and support her friend, who was having a showing at Gallery Bar. Stupidly I forgot all about it and made plans with Chika to see Be Kind Rewind. Feeling the noose tighten and dreading the idea of bailing on Wilma I convinced Chika into having a drink before going to the movies. I figured I could make everyone happy and support the arts.

After a quick drink Chika and I hit the theater. I found the film cute but defiantly lacking in the plot department. It felt like an excuse to do all these amazing old school camera tricks. I guess it wouldn’t be a Michael Gondry film without them.

Getting Stronger

I was excited at the prospect of getting home at a reasonable hour. I’m not sure what came over me but as soon as I walked thru the door I changed into my running gear and went out. Unlike Sunday I managed to run 2 miles in a little under 20 minutes.

I spent the rest of the night watching bad reality television.

The Never Ending Sunday

March 23, 2008 General Comments

Earlier in the week I invited Nice to see The Spiderwick Chronicles with me on Sunday. Sure I had my doubts about the movie being any good but it turned out I was totally wrong. The movie was really entertaining.

Afterward, I figured Nice would take off and I would run a few errands alone. But to my surprise she had nothing planned and was kind enough to tag along. What was suppose to be an afternoon movie turned into a dinner at Boqueria and a long talk at Starbucks. I didn’t get home till midnight.

A Few Words About Nice

I think I’m starting to like her and not just cause she’s cute. It’s her sweet personality. Sadly, she’s had a string of bad luck with guys and seems really lost. I think she just needs time and a good friend.

Vesta

Went out for my first run in Astoria and realized quickly I’m totally out of shape. I puttered around the house and watched “The Brave One” with Jodi Foster for the rest of the day. Nice called in the evening and invited my friends and I to Vesta. The promise of free admission and booze all night was too good to pass up.

Upon dropping her name we were escorted inside and greeted with a warm smile and a stiff drink. I picked up a girl at the bar that didn’t even speak English. I sometimes marvel at what a simple smile and charm can get you.

We ended the night at a diner on 34th where I ran into Pegi. Talk about random.
