Leap Year Party

February 29, 2008 General Comments

Ever have one of those days where you feel like your just piloting a mech (walking vehicles controlled by a pilot, often appearing in science fiction or other genres involving a fantastic or futuristic element.)? I know it sounds odd to say but that’s the best way to describe it.  I wasn’t drunk or on medication, I just wasn’t feeling comfortable in my own skin.

I got to work and did the usual meeting / design thing and towards the end of the day I met up with Rob for a quick game of Rock Band.  While waiting around I ran into the vice president of my fan club.  She smiled!  It was odd and totally threw me off.  This is the girl that can barely look at me and now she smiled?  Must have been gas or a case of mistaken identity. For the record she looked stunning (yum), probably dinner plans with friends or a date.

After a failed attempt at Rock Band I headed home to work out, shower and eat so I could make it to Erik’s Leap Year party at Summers.  The city streets were real quite since the weather was shitty but the party was still awesome.

Afterward we got a slice at Rosario’s Pizza and hit Vig but it was a sausage fest.  I called it an early night.

Nerd or Geek? You Decide

February 28, 2008 General Comments

Last nights conversation with Eunice got me thinking, am I a nerd or a geek?  I racked my brain trying to figure out what the difference was but just got frustrated.  I turned to Urban Dictionary for help.

Nerd
An ‘individual’, i.e. a person who does not conform to society’s beliefs that all people should follow trends and do what their peers do. Often highly intelligent but socially rejected because of their obsession with a given subject, usually computers.

Geek
Not to be confused with Nerd. A geek does not have to be smart, a Geek is someone who is generally not athletic, and enjoys Video Games; Comic Books; being on the Internet, and etc.

So now I’m really fucked cause I’m technically both.

Tonight I attended an invitation only party for Johnnie Walker at the Cole Hann store located in the Time Warner Center. I’m not a big fan of whiskey but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to drink Blue all night.

After the event Al, Nice and I headed upstairs to Stone Rose. Al took off shortly thereafter since he had tickets to see Pela. He mentioned they sounded like The National and extended an invitation but I passed. I really wanted to get to know Nice since we had just met. I found her charming, interesting and extremely attractive.

Mutant Prototype

February 26, 2008 General Comments

Today I realized god must have used the mutant prototype template when creating me. Their have been a few signs along the way like my inability to wink but I just ignored them.  I figured it was some anomaly attributed to stress.  But after playing Guitar Hero on medium difficulty I’ve come to terms with being a mutant.

When I first started playing Guitar Hero I sucked.  I figured I needed a little practice but as I’ve continued to play I’ve noticed I’m unable to meet the non-rigorous physical demands.  Did I lack rhythm or was I just overweight?  Both actually but those have no real bearing on being a Guitar Hero, just ask any member of Kiss.

What I’m lacking is the ability to curl my pinky independently of my other fingers.  In twenty-nine years, how did I not notice this?  How have I been able to function in society without the ability to wink or curl my pinky independently?

The worst part of it all is I’m stuck in the middle. I’m not mentally or physically challenged enough to be considered a special needs individual / handicapped.  And my problem is more severe than those retards that can’t whistle*.

* Public Service Announcement:  Non-whistlers may at first glance seem challenged like myself but in truth they are just social deviants that are unwilling to follow simple instructions.  They pander for our sympathy by posing as challenged but they’re just incompetent.

Whole Again

February 24, 2008 General Comments

I was raw from last nights drink-a-palooza but needed to get up early and pick up my shades. I had lost them last week in a cab and was miserable without them. All week I felt down and it got me thinking. Why was the loss of shades affecting me so much? The answer was obvious, these shades were no longer shades, they were a part of me.

As children we have a teddy bear or blanket (blankie) that comforts us. As adults we have shoes or jeans that fit just right and make our ass look great. For me it’s a pair of black wrap around Blinde shades.

After we picked them up from Dis Respectacles Eyewear in the West Village we did some window shopping and had a late lunch at Olive Tree. When we got back I skipped dinner and watched Sunshine, Danny Boyle’s attempt at sci-fi.

It started out like you standard sci-fi movie, a multi-cultural crew (earths last hope) is tasked with jumpstarting the dying star we call the sun. Thirty minutes in and the movie took a nosedive and devolved into a muddled mess. The verdict, skip it.

American Gangster was next in the queue and it didn’t disappoint. The movie was long but never felt boring or tedious. Each scene helped flesh out the characters and drive the plot. Go figure. Verdict, definite must see.

I feel I should add a bit of a disclaimer, I heart Ridley Scott. In my opinion he is the best director working today.

Low Energy, Low Key

February 23, 2008 General Comments

I didn’t really do anything with my morning, which was defiantly welcomed considering I’d been out late all week.

In the evening I met up with Al and T for dinner at Gobo. I wanted to eat relatively healthy and had a craving for their stuffed red pepper. When we arrived the wait was an hour long but my charm and luck got us seated right away. I realized immediately they were not serving the stuffed pepper since it’s seasonal. So, instead I opted for the scallion pancakes, fried spinach dumplings (so much for healthy) and butternut squash risotto.

Afterwards T took us to Voldenuit for drinks. The place had a really strong Eastern European / vampire coven vibe. I was expecting a sexy vampire girl to slide out from the shadows, seduce me and leave me in some alley drained of all my blood. After having hot vampire sex of course ;) .

Considering we were in the neighborhood I decide to show Al and T Blue Ribbon Bar. After a cocktail and some interesting conversation about dreams and the metaphysical (typical drunk conversation) we tried to catch a cab to Vig Bar. That proved impossible so we opted to walk across town in the cold. It was like living in Russia minus the babushkas.

T took off and Pab showed up shortly thereafter. We ended the night at Big Daddy’s Diner were I got shot down by this girl that looked like Tera Patrick, heartbreak. Next time I’ll sweep the leg so she can’t get away.

My Friends Rock

February 22, 2008 General Comments

I was tired from last night’s party at Touch and prayed Friday would be quite but had no suck luck.  My 9:00am meeting was grueling and I was expected to pay attention and actually contribute.  The rest of my workday was rounded out by an afternoon trip to the Tower for a “working session” which played out exactly as I thought it would.  The client was willing to do just enough to keep their job and fuck innovation.

As soon as 5:00pm rolled around I punched out and made my way to The 30-30 Challenge.  Erik really tried hard but we only placed 4th.  Had the contest been based purely on heart and a desire to win we would have placed first.  Better luck next year.

A few of us headed to Stone Creek afterwards for a quick drink before I met up with Lisa, Genevive and T for dinner at Rayuela.  The food was phenomenal and the ambiance ridonkulous.  I think this might be my new date spot.

As I sat at dinner I couldn’t help but feel grateful that I have such amazing friend’s.  They were defiantly the highlight of my night.

Touch + NYC TV = Happy D

February 21, 2008 General Comments

I had received an invitation to a NYC TV release party in the mail (yes the mail) from Timi and figured it would be fun.  I planned on meeting Christopher and catching up considering I hadn’t seen him since we had dinner at the Palm Too restuarant.

I brought along Ray and the both of us went to town.  It was like we had entered the Walmart of on-air personalities / models and they were having a clearance sale.  We both had a great time and I made a few new friends.  Now lets see if they remember me when I call them.

Perfect Moments

February 20, 2008 General Comments

What should have been a boring Wednesday turned out to be a day I’ll never forget. I arrived at work late as usual and began my daily routine. I saw an email from someone interested in getting to know one another from Match.com in my inbox. The message was short and included their email address and instant messenger handle.

We instant messaged throughout the day and decided to meet after work at Gstaad. Drinks turned into a hunt for candy (Swedish fish and malt balls), a movie (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly), and a failed attempt at illegal after hours shopping in Bloomingdales.

We had just met a few hours ago but already on some level we had clicked and all the bullshit commonly associated with first dates faded away. Our inner child emerged and we were able to just be ourselves and enjoy each others company. Bags’ full of candy lay in our laps as we sat in an empty theater watching a French foreign film. With every joke or lull in the film we teased one another.

It was like a scene in a movie minus to contrived romance. What was happening was natural and real. So much so that a warm feeling washed over me and for the first time in a long time I felt like life was going to be better than I’d imagined.
